Exploration 5

I had tried to transform a pair of harem pants onto different styles from loose knit top to a short cowled skirt and many more.It give mea different way to the exploration as just by opening the inseam of a lower and then draping around the upper and lower body it could give rise to new garment styles and design options.

My CONCEPT

I aim to show flexibility in wearing a garment in more ways than one through styling and design. I aim to show how design can aid styling of your own outfits I will do this by first starting to explore already existing garments to get a clear direction for the silhouette and use second hand apparel and completly transform them into somthing else and show as a stylist/designer how this can be done through the means of my exploration. Later I aim to demonstrate how this could then be translated into a design with the fabric technique of tie & dye and the appropriate color to fit into the inspiration of roman statues and sculpture,that can be styled and worn in different ways by the wearer.


Through all this I aim to target the ready to wear market category targeting the client who has a very busy lifestyle in her late 20's and is very independent.HEr daily schedule is such that she goes to the office in the morning and then in between has to go to meet her friend for lunch and once her office work gets over she generally meets her boyfriend for coffee or sometimes chills with her friends at the pub or stop by the bar often.

So in these garments the transformations would be such that the user could do it on her own and I would give hints for the garment change through the garment details at the positions like button,button hole , snap,rivet button etc for the user to know how she can get to the another look and also to make it more easy for the client I could give a small booklet to the user to show the different ways in which she could wear the garment.

Exploration 4 contd

I had bought a men's wear shirt size 40 which I had draped around a female dummy in various ways which gives the a new dimension to my concept. So the garment look in some ways could be androgenous with garment for men ( for example the shirt) could be transformed into a female wearing garment be a dress or a skirt as shown below. These all explorations have given me new ideas for innovative pattern making.

Exploration 4

Reflection on the work done so far

I am very satisfied with exploring already existing garments till now as it has given mea new direction in the way of design development. But at same time, at some points in my exploration I have experienced difficulties in design development due to
1 Exploring already existing garment sometimes fabric was too less ; finding the right color according to my concept or few designs didn't give me enough ideas to explore variety in them
2 I had to apply the concept of transforming which was each garment/design idea should be such that it could be worn in different ways once assembled
So all these factors acted both as a limitation and a challenge for me to come up with something exciting.

The next step for me is to explore few more ideas may be with already existing garments or else I make my won patterns keeping in mind the wearability of a garment in various ways .Also I need to think about whether I should combine tie & dye and hand paint in my design or not or even if use just tie & dye will it enhance my design ideas or not or i should stick to just plain white color garments with innovative design details and then I would like to make one or two interesting design as my final garment.
