My design idea caters for the autistic teenagers situated in UK who undergo stress and agitation because they are suffering from autism which is a lifelong developmental disorder and they have a problem in social interaction. I choose to design for autistic teenagers because I wanted to make an effort in decreasing the burden on the health system and families of ASD patients.Their behaviour consists of having mood swings, agression, depression, lonliness etc. Specially with their response to sound around us like bussling of train which is normal to us is disturbing to them and causes ANXIETY.
A recent research suggests that stimulants like music,aromatherapy etc helps alleviate the stress. So I want to make garments & products which can help them relax and destress. In which the key features would be incorporating music therapy by means of electronic textiles basically having vibration or sound which is relaxing to the user &it can also be achieved through passive digital technologies. Also color change element can be used through paneling in garments .Fabrics used would basically be medical knits or jerseys which would provide comfort& are antibacterial in terms of having aroma properties .In garments I would also like to incorporate fabrics interwoven with digital impulses that can be programmed to have sound or relaxing beats to reduce their anxiety while traveling and dealing with high frequency noise.
